Fritz Brugger is the executive director of NADEL and in charge of the Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) and the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) programmes. He holds a PhD in Development Studies from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. His research focuses on the developmental effects of natural resource extraction and on the role of extractive companies.
Before that, Fritz worked for eight years for Helvetas. Later, he became a consultant with a focus on governance issues, among others in water management, agriculture and corporate responsibility. He had mandates from bi- and multilateral organizations, NGOs, and private sector companies.
In the five years before joining NADEL, Fritz developed an index-based agricultural insurance for a private foundation as well as a mobile-technology based platform to foster market access for smallholder farmers. Fritz has done most of his work in Sub-Saharan Africa.
